Nest Account Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about Nest Accounts. You'll find information about how to create, use, or change your Nest Account as well as some helpful tips if you get stuck.

Your Nest Account is the key to unlocking all the features of your Nest products. You’ll use your Nest Account to sign in to the free Nest FT app, which gives you full control of your Nest home and Nest products.

Creating, signing into, and sharing your Nest Account

Software updates

  • All your Nest products must be connected to the internet to download software updates.

How do I create a Nest Account?>

  1. You can create a Nest Account with the Nest app on a phone or tablet.

  2. Download the Nest app (delivered via an email of your acceptance into the Nest Field Test Community) on your phone or tablet.

  3. Open the Nest app and tap Sign up.

  4. Enter the email address you'd like to use.

  5. Enter a password at least 8 characters long. It needs to have at least two of the following:

    • Upper and lowercase letters (ABC/abc)

    • A symbol (!#$)

    • A number (123)

  6. Read and agree to the Nest Terms of Service.

  7. Check your email for a Welcome to Nest email titled "Please verify your Nest Account email address." Open this email and tap the included link to activate your Nest Account.

If you don't get the welcome email:

  • You might have entered the wrong email address. Double check that you signed up for your Nest Account with the correct email address.

What do I need to sign into my Nest Account?

You need a working email address and a password to sign in

For an added layer of security, we also recommend enabling 2-step verification on your account. Whenever you sign in, you'll need to enter your password as well as a temporary, unique code that's sent to your phone.

How do I change my Nest Account email address?

After changing your email address, all email alerts, home reports, and other messages from Nest will be delivered to the new address. Anyone who shares access to your Nest home can also change their email address by following these steps.

  1. Open the Nest app and sign in to your account if prompted.

  2. Tap the Menu icon.

  3. Tap Account and select Manage Account.

  4. Tap Account Security and then Email address.

  5. Enter your current Nest Account password and the new email address. Retype your new email address to confirm.

  6. Tap Save changes.

  7. Check your new email address for a message from account@nest.com. Tap or click on the included link to verify the new address.

If you don't get the email after a few moments:

  • You might have entered the wrong email address. Double check that you spelled your new email address correctly.

Can I share my Nest Account with someone else?

No. You should never share your Nest Account password with anyone. This can compromise the security of your account and cause unexpected behavior with features like Home/Away Assist.

You can invite your friends and family to share access to your home with Family Accounts. Each person will be able to sign in with their own Nest Account and use the Nest app on their phone to view and use the Nest products in your home.


 

Troubleshooting emails, passwords, and sign in

What should I do if I can't sign in to my Nest Account?

To sign in to your Nest Account, open the Nest app with a phone, tablet, or visit home.ft.nest.com. Enter your email address and password then click Sign in.

If you’re having trouble you might see a message saying incorrect email address or password. You might also see a spinning ring that never stops, a blank sign in screen, or your home might not load correctly.

If you're having trouble signing in to your Nest Account and you see a message saying incorrect email address or password:

  1. Double check that you're trying to sign in with the right email address. Make sure your email address is spelled correctly. If you use multiple email addresses, make sure to use the email that you used to sign up for your Nest Account.

  2. Double check that you’re trying to sign in with the right password. Your password is case-sensitive, so make sure you use the same capitalization every time.
  3. Check the Nest Service status to see if there's a service outage. If there's a service outage, you'll need to wait for service to resume before you can sign in to your Nest Account.
  4. Reset your password. Click Forgot Password and following the instructions. You'll receive an email to reset your password.

If you don't get the password reset email:

  • You might have entered the wrong email address. Double check that you signed up for your Nest Account with the correct email address.

If you sign in with your email address and password but your Nest home won’t load, you see a spinning ring, a blank screen, or have other trouble signing in:

Important: If you're able to sign in on one device but not another, take a look at the settings and menu options for the device that's giving you trouble. Certain browser, network, phone, or router settings may be preventing you from signing in.

  1. Check the Nest Service status to see if there's a service outage. If there's a service outage, you'll need to wait for service to resume before you can sign in to your Nest Account.

  2. Try using a different web browser or the Nest app to sign in to your Nest Account. If using a different browser resolves your issue, troubleshoot the settings on your browser or device that might be preventing you from signing in.

  3. Try using a different device to sign in. Use a phone or tablet with the Nest app to sign in to your Nest Account. You can also try using a computer to visit home.ft.nest.com to try to sign in. If you're trying to sign in at work, try signing in using your cellular data or home Wi-Fi.
